Or I play Am-B-Em at the end instead of B-B-Em. Let's add a harmonic Em cord at the end and call it Delcamp community copyright-free arrangement of Romanza so that now everyone can play it freely. At which point it becomes an independent arrangement? You may be interested in some earlier discussions of the subject in the following threads:Ĭopyright on arrangement, seriously? There are unlimited number of ways one can alter any arrangement by adding some alterations. Delcamp's understanding is that this now belongs to the publishers Editions Transatlantiques. The problem is that the version we all know was his arrangement, and so the forum needs to take into account not author's copyright but arranger's copyright. I don't think anyone seriously believes that Yepes wrote the piece, but that's not the problem here. GeoffB wrote: ↑ Monday 25 March 2019, 19:41 pm MEDINA e HIJO and in 1919 in the method of Pedro Mascaró y Reissig, etc. However, Yepes was born 1927 and cannot be the author of the work, since it was already recorded in 1900 and published before 1925 (possibly 1913) by J.A. Yepes contends that the melody had been plagiarized (with some changes to the arrangement) by someone who, he assumes, must have attended that first performance. Some time later, he recounts, when he was thirteen years old he attended a performance in Valencia and heard his composition performed by another guitarist, who indicated the authorship as "anonymous". The official statement from Narciso Yepes and the Yepes heirs is that Narciso Yepes, being a young boy, originally composed the piece for his mother when he was about seven years old (c.1934) and soon thereafter performed it between acts at the Teatro Guerra, in Lorca, Spain. Newer publications show Yepes as the arranger and the piece being of anonymous authorship, or authored by Fernando Sor. Yepes currently has the copyright of this composition in Spain although recordings and manuscripts of this song predate 1952. The popularity of the film gave the piece worldwide fame. Narciso Yepes (1927 - 1997) interpreted and is listed as the author of the piece in René Clément's 1952 film Jeux interdits (Forbidden Games). Many recordings exist, and they are always noted as "anonymous" ![]() So why can't we have a thread that features performances? I am aware of the copyright issues involving Narciso Yepes, but this has always been challenged by historians that have proof it was recorded originally in 1900. I always considered it a challenge to perform this piece the wonderful way someone like Alexandre Lagoya presents it. Today I played Spanish Romance, the first piece I memorized on guitar, way back when! Although it has been years, I was pleasantly surprised how well I played it first time around. ![]()
